Deep Tissue Massage
“Just a few lines to thank you for sorting out my back problems. At first I was not convinced, but I have to say the treatment I received has really worked and the benefits have been fantastic. I can now enjoy long walks and riding my bike again without pain. Once again thanks for all the advice and help. CW”
What is Deep Tissue Massage?
Unlike holistic massage therapy which is generally used for relaxation and general aches and pains, Deep Tissue Massage focuses on and treats specific problems causing muscular pain, tenderness and a lack of flexibility.
Where there is chronic muscle tension, injury or prolonged immobility there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments. These adhesions can cause the soft tissue to become stiff, hardened or become stuck to other structures; creating poor circulation, pain, limited movement, and inflammation.
Think of a these affected muscles as a light bulb; but when you switch it off, it stays on. These tight muscles are always in tension; working when they should be resting. Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and inflammation and restore normal movement and circulation.
Benefits of Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronic aches and pains in the deep muscles of the legs including hamstrings, illio-tibial band, quads and gastrocnemius, muscles of the back, arms, shoulders and feet.
Chronic aches and pain
Recovery from injuries (e.g. whiplash, falls, sports injury, scarring)
Repetitive strain injury, such as carpal tunnel syndrome
Postural problems and imbalance (pain on one side of the body)
Muscle tension or spasm
Improves blood circulation
Due to the nature of this therapy, parts of a treatment can be uncomfortable at times, however, I will always respect your pain tolerance levels, and will work with you to find a level of pressure that is comfortable for you.
If needed, I will use other techniques which work wth the soft tissues in a slightly different way such as Myofascial Release, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, CranioSacral Therapy and Holistic Massage to increase the effectiveness of the treatment and reduce any discomfort.
